About the experience
Take the elevator to the terrace of the Basilica and enjoy a unique view over the Eternal City. Admire up close the mosaics of Saint Peter's Dome, from the same vantage point as the artist who designed it. Continue up to to 320 steps and, as you reach the top of the Dome, you will have experienced an unforgettable journey of spirituality and art. Then, visit Saint Peter's Basilica with the Digital Audio Guide to discover its history and works of art.
The offer includes a visit to Saint Peter’s Basilica with a Digital Audio Guide (to be completed 90 minutes before the scheduled entry time to the Dome).
The booking includes:
- Personalised visiting hours
- Access to the terrace by lift
- Visit to the inner Ring and outer Ring of the Dome
Duration: approximately 1 hour.

Point of departure: The visit begins after the access control and security checks (see instructions in the email containing the access QR codes). Follow the instructions of the Digital Audio Guide to start your discovery tour of the Basilica.
(a) Basilica Visit - Basilica entry 90 minutes before the selected entry time for the Dome.
(b) Dome Visit - Dome entry at the selected entry time.
- Immediately after booking, you will receive e-mail no. 1 with the VOUCHER confirming the services.
- Within 48 hours before your visit, you will receive e-mail no. 2 with the QR CODE to be shown during access controls.
- Within 24 hours before your booked visit, you will receive e-mail no. 3 with the QR codes/links for activation and access to the Digital Audio Guide.
- The access QR Codes are compulsory. If, on the day of your visit to the Basilica, you have not received the emails with the access QR Codes and those for the Digital Audio Guides: (1) Also check your spam/junk folder. (2) Go to https://myqr.basilicasanpietro.va to retrieve them by entering your email and the information shown on the confirmation voucher.
Time: The ticket is valid for a specific time bracket. Reserved for at least 2 or 3 hours to use for entry to the Basilica before ascent to the Dome. Please ensure that you arrive by the time indicated on your booking confirmation to guarantee access, also allowing time for security checks.
Minimum age: Recommended for children aged 6 and up. Children and young people under 16 must be accompanied by an adult.
Accessibility: Pets and infants are not allowed to enter. Please note that there is currently no cloakroom service available inside Saint Peter's Basilica. Therefore, we recommend traveling light and bringing only small backpacks or personal bags.
The lift to the Dome only reaches the first terrace. To reach the top of the Dome, there are an additional 320 steps.
The visit is not recommended for:
- people who suffer from heart conditions
- people who suffer from claustrophobia or vertigo
- people with breathing difficulties
- pregnant women
- people with reduced mobility
Accessibility for wheelchair users: This activity involves stairs, so it is not accessible to wheelchair users.
Recommendations: Visitors must remain silent and behave respectfully. It is permitted to take photos without flash, but tripods and selfie sticks are not allowed. Mobile phones must be switched to silent. The peak visiting hours are from 8:30 to 11:00.
Cancellation policy: In case of cancellation on the visitor's part, no refund can be given. Booking is nominative, non-transferable, non-refundable and can't be changed.
Cancellation for unexpected closure: Within 24 hours of the date booked, the visitor may be informed via email of potential cancellation due to events or commitments communicated by the Government of Vatican City. Tickets will be fully refundable. It will not be permitted to change the date.
Clothing: Clothing must be appropriate for a religious site: long trousers for men, and skirts below the knee or trousers for women. All shoulders must be covered.
Not permitted: It is forbidden to make phone calls, smoke, consume food and drink, bring pets inside or bring large objects or photo equipment with you.
Useful information: Please behave respectfully and remain silent at all times. Please silence your mobile phone.
The Digital Audioguide can only be used on smartphones (using your own earphones) with the following operating systems: iOS, Android, HarmonyOS, Windows 10 Mobile, Ubuntu Touch. The supported web browsers are: Safari, Google Chrome, Huawei Browser, Microsoft Edge, Blink/Chrome optimized for Ubuntu. It is not designed to work on tablet devices or tablet PCs. Therefore, before proceeding with the purchase of the booking service, please ensure that you have a device that meets the above requirements.
ATTENTION: For bookings at 18:00, please note that the Caves are not accessible to the public. Therefore, the visit will be limited to the Basilica, and the audio guide will only be available for this part of the tour.
