About the experience
Visit St. Peter’s Basilica with the Digital Audioguide, discovering its history and works of art. Then access the Basilica terrace by lift and enjoy a unique panorama of the Eternal City. Admire up close the mosaics of St. Peter’s Dome from the same viewpoint as the artist who designed them. Continue climbing 320 steps, and once at the top of the Dome, you will have experienced an unmissable moment of spirituality and art.

- Free visit of the internal Ring and external Ring of the Dome
Duration: approx. 2.5 hours
Type: private, Free Visit
Starting point: the visit begins after the QR Code check and security screening. The QR Code and all access information are included in Mail 2, which is sent once the purchase is completed. Follow the instructions on the Digital Audioguide to begin your journey of discovery through the Basilica.
- Right after booking, you will receive email no. 1 with the service confirmation VOUCHER.
- Then, you will receive email no. 2 with the QR Codes for all participants, to be shown during access checks. QR Codes are mandatory. If you don’t receive this email within 30 minutes of booking (check spam), write to booking@basilicasanpietro.va quoting reference number TIE‑xxxx.
- Within 24 hours before your booked time, you’ll receive email no. 3 with the QR code/link to activate and use the Digital Audioguide.
Time slot: ticket valid for a specific time slot. Arrive within your reserved time, allowing time for security checks.
Minimum age: recommended from age 6. Children and teenagers up to and including 17 years of age must be accompanied by an adult.
Accessibility: animals not allowed. Note: to reach the Dome summit you must climb an additional 320 steps. A stroller deposit area is under the Basilica portico, accessible via dedicated ramp and forecourt steps. Once strollers are deposited, go to the Welcome Desk to start the visit from the Vatican Grottoes, first stage of the Audioguide. No cloakroom service is currently available; travel light with small backpacks or personal bags.
The visit is not recommended for:
- people with heart conditions
- people suffering from claustrophobia or vertigo
- people with respiratory problems
- pregnant women
- people with reduced or impaired mobility
Wheelchair accessibility: this activity includes stairs and is therefore not accessible to wheelchair users.
Cancellation policy: visitor cancellations are non-refundable. Booking is nominative, non-transferable, non-refundable, non-modifiable. No date changes allowed.
Cancellations due to unexpected closures: within 24 hours of the visit date, you may be informed of cancellation due to extraordinary liturgical celebrations or events relating to the Holy See. In such cases, the full reservation cost will be refunded.
Dress code: attire must be appropriate for a sacred place: long trousers for men and women; skirts below the knee or trousers for women; shoulders must be covered.
Not allowed: phone calls, smoking, eating/drinking, animals or bulky objects.
Useful information: maintain silence and respectful behavior. Photography allowed without flash. Tripods and selfie sticks are not permitted. Phones must be set to silent.
The Digital Audioguide can only be used on smartphones (using your own earphones) with the following operating systems: iOS, Android, HarmonyOS, Windows 10 Mobile, UbuntuTouch. Supported web browsers are: Safari, Google Chrome, Huawei Browser, Microsoft Edge, Blink/Chrome optimized for Ubuntu. The Audioguide is not supported on tablets or tablet PCs. Therefore, before proceeding with the purchase of the booking service, please verify that your device meets the above-mentioned requirements.
PLEASE NOTE: The Digital Audioguide is only available for the Basilica visit. In case of extraordinary liturgical celebrations or organizational requirements, the inner Ring of the Dome may not be accessible.
